Directions

1. In a medium bowl, gently whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.

2. In a large bowl or in the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the butter until it becomes creamy.

3. Add the sugars and mix until they are well combined.

4. Add the egg and vanilla, and mix for another minute or until they are thoroughly blended.

5. Gradually add half of the flour mixture to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until it is fully incorporated.

6. Pour in the milk and mix until the ingredients are combined, and the mixture becomes smooth.

7. Add the remaining flour and mix until just combined.

8. Carefully fold in half of the M & Ms, saving the other half for the finishing touches.

9. Cover the dough and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least an hour.

10. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

11. Using a cookie scoop or a spoon, scoop 1 1/2 tablespoons of dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet, making sure to leave 2 inches of space between each cookie.

12. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees. Be careful not to over-bake them.

13. While the cookies are slightly warm, add the extra M & Ms one by one. Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before storing them.
