Homemade Pie Crust - Double Crust

Homemade Pie Crust for pies that require a top layer for lattice or other design. Such as apple or cherry pie.

Ingredients

Homemade Pie Crust
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups cold butter, diced
  • 1/2 cup ice water
  • 1 egg plus water for egg-wash

Directions

1. In a food processor pulse together the flour, sugar, and salt.

2. Add cold butter and pulse a few times until the mixture is cut into small pea-sized clumps.

3. Drizzle half of the water over the mixture and pulse a few times.

4. Check and see if the mixture holds together between your fingers when pinched. If not, add a little water at a time and pulse until it does.

5. Turn out flour mixture on a silicone mat or a lightly floured surface.

6. Press together with your hands until your form 2 disks about 1-inch thick.

 

7. Wrap in plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for about an hour.
